Following its 2015 North American tour, the pioneering virtual reality festival will be launching an international traveling showcase visiting 10 cities over March and April 2016. The Kaleidoscope tour is set to kick off in Paris (Gaîté Lyrique) on March 1st, before hitting Tel Aviv, London, Stockholm, Köln, Berlin, Amsterdam, Pangyo, Tokyo and Melbourne.
The festival will be showcasing animated shorts, real-time 3D experiences, fiction, documentary and music, as well as a special presentation of Google’s 3D VR painting tool Tilt Brush. Kaleidoscope will feature 30 projects from independent creators, including a few world premieres such as Pierre Friquet’s Jet Lag, Balthazar Auxiètre’s La Péri: A Prelude and stop motion legend Phil Tippett’s Mad God.
In addition to 7 recent projects competing for a Grand Prize, Kaleidoscope will be showing some of the best productions from the past two years, including the beautiful Notes on Blindness: Into Darkness which was recently shown at Sundance, Aaron Bradbury’s acclaimed LOVR and the European premieres of VR projects from animation studios Baobab and Penrose, respectively Invasion! and The Rose & I.
At each stop, Kaleidoscope will host a 90-minute panel featuring some of the creators, who will discuss their work and the state of VR creation, as well as a live demonstration of Nokia’s Ozo 360° camera. Produced in association with WIRED, Kaleidoscope is powered by Wevr’s Transport content platform, currently in beta. Stay tuned, as we’ll be reporting first hand from this promising premier international event of the VR festival circuit.
